Selon Alifpost, l’Envoy\u00e9 Personnel de l’ONU pour le Sahara Occidental, Christopher Ross, a l’intention de jeter l’\u00e9ponge. D’apr\u00e8s Abderrazak Laassel, repr\u00e9sentant permanent adjoint du Maroc aupr\u00e8s de l\u2019ONU \u00e0 New York, la question a \u00e9t\u00e9 pos\u00e9e lors du briefing quotidien de l’ONU le 4 ao\u00fbt, et la r\u00e9ponse du porte-parole a \u00e9t\u00e9 beaucoup plus courte. “Nous avons vu ces rapports m\u00e9diatiques sur l’envoy\u00e9 personnel du Secr\u00e9taire G\u00e9n\u00e9ral pour le Sahara Occidental. Ces rapports n’ont aucun fondement. M. Ross, l’Ambassadeur Ross, poursuit ses consultations avec les parties, \u00e0 la fois sur leurs pr\u00e9occupations \u00e9videmment, mais aussi sur le calendrier de sa prochaine visite dans la r\u00e9gion”, pr\u00e9cise le resposable onusien. “<\/p>\n\n\n\n

En r\u00e9ponse \u00e0 ces all\u00e9gations, Ross a envoy\u00e9 un email au SG du MAE marocain, Nasser Bourita. “L’article le plus r\u00e9cent qui est paru \u00e0 mon sujet dans la version arabe d’AlifPost est une pure invention. Je n’ai absolument pas l’intention de d\u00e9missionner, et les pr\u00e9tendues sources de l’Union europ\u00e9enne d’al-Quds al-`Arabi\/AlifPost se trompent \u00e0 cent pour cent sur ce point !”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Dans un autre courrier re\u00e7u par Bourita, Ross pr\u00e9cise qu’il n’est “pas au courant d’un quelconque effort au sein du Secr\u00e9tariat pour g\u00e9n\u00e9rer des questions et des r\u00e9ponses visant \u00e0 faire pression sur le Maroc. Apr\u00e8s plusieurs s\u00e9ries de sp\u00e9culations, d’abord dans la presse marocaine, puis plus largement dans la presse r\u00e9gionale, selon lesquelles j’envisageais de d\u00e9missionner, j’ai pr\u00e9par\u00e9 la r\u00e9ponse suivante le 21 juillet, au cas o\u00f9 le porte-parole se verrait poser une question sur ces rapports”. “Les rapports des m\u00e9dias nord-africains pr\u00e9tendant que l’Envoy\u00e9 personnel du Secr\u00e9taire g\u00e9n\u00e9ral pour le Sahara Occidental pourrait d\u00e9missionner ou qu’il pourrait proposer la fin du processus de n\u00e9gociation qu’il a facilit\u00e9 sont de pures inventions et sans fondement. Avec le plein soutien du Secr\u00e9taire g\u00e9n\u00e9ral et du Conseil de s\u00e9curit\u00e9, l’Envoy\u00e9 personnel, M. Christopher Ross, poursuit ses consultations concernant les pr\u00e9occupations des parties et le calendrier de sa prochaine visite dans la r\u00e9gion. Son mandat demeure celui d’aider les parties \u00e0 parvenir \u00e0 une solution politique juste, durable et mutuellement acceptable, qui permette l’autod\u00e9termination du peuple du Sahara Occidental, et ses activit\u00e9s continuent d’\u00eatre guid\u00e9es par les r\u00e9solutions successives du Conseil de S\u00e9curit\u00e9, qui, entre autres, appellent les parties et les Etats voisins \u00e0 coop\u00e9rer plus pleinement avec les Nations Unies et entre eux dans la recherche d’un r\u00e8glement. > North African media reports claiming that the Personal Envoy of the Secretary-General for Western Sahara may resign or that he may propose an end to the negotiating process he has been facilitating are pure inventions and without foundation. With the full support of the Secretary-General and of the Security Council, the Personal Envoy, Mr. Christopher Ross, is continuing to consult regarding the parties’ concerns and the timing of his next visit to the region. His mandate remains that of assisting the parties to achieve a just, lasting, and mutually acceptable political solution, which will provide for the self-determination of the people of Western Sahara, and his activities continue to be guided by successive Security Council resolutions, which, among other things, call upon the parties and the neighbouring states to cooperate more fully with the United Nations and with each other in the search for a settlement.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

> That response was intended to be fair and balanced. There was no hint of pressure on Morocco. Par contre, the last sentence was intended as a signal to Algeria.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

> In the absence of any questions, the UN Press Office shared the above statement with the MAP correspondent on 23 July.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

> As it happened, the question did come up in the daily UN briefing on 4 August, and the spokesperson’s response was much shorter:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

> Question: Yes, I have a question on the Western Sahara if we are finished with Gaza. There are persistent rumours that Christopher Ross is no longer trusted by both parties in the conflict and is about to resign or is thinking about resigning. Could you comment about that and tell us also if Mr. Ross is about to go to the region at a given point?<\/p>\n\n\n\n

> Associate Spokesperson: We\u2019ve seen those media reports about the Secretary-General\u2019s Personal Envoy for Western Sahara. Those reports have no foundation.
